Meet the Artists

Thea and George Stewart
A Marriage of Hearts as well as Paint and Wood Carving

Thea

Thea is originally from Maine. She and George, a master wood carver, retired to Florida in 1984.  Since then they have traveled extensively and now divide their time between North Carolina and Florida.

Thea has been painting for nearly thirty years; has studied with many national artists and is a Donna Dewberry One-Stroke Certified Instructor.  She continues her education by taking numerous seminars each year.  She is a member of the National Society of Decorative Artists and is active in two local chapters of the society.   For fifteen years, Thea has taught several classes at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, volunteers at local schools and churches when time allows, and participates in her other loves, tennis and golf.  Other hobbies include bridge and music.

George

George of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Florida has named his business, Heritage Decorative Decoys. His carvings are all his expression of an age-old art.

An avid sportsman, George has spent a lifetime observing wildlife in its natural habitat.  Heritage decoys are available as realistic, stylized or antique reproductions of decoys used for hunting.  The attention to detail, quality of carving and painting and the carver's signature contribute to the decoy's value as a collectible.

George is a member of many wood carver associations and several guilds.  He won the, Teacher of the Year, award for Wood Carving at the University Club in 1999.

Thea and George are in Hendersonville from April through October
and in Florida from November through March
