A long time resident of the Western North Carolina Mountains, Chris developed her interest in woodworking as a result of her close relationship with her father. She later discovered the art of woodturning. Woodturning is a specialized area of woodworking involving the use of a wood lathe and chisels allowing one to sculpt and create unique pieces of art.

A member of the American Association of Woodturners, she enjoys using both native and exotic woods to turn boxes, goblets, bowls, bottle toppers and other useful household items. Each piece is unique in nature, providing an individualized feel.

Chris further utilizes her woodworking skills in her independently owned furniture repair and refinishing business, Furniture Medic. As a furniture repair technician, she is able to apply her full field of knowledge, as a woodworker and wood turner, to all pieces of wood she works with. For more information on the services provided by Furniture Medic please visit her web site, http://www.furnituremedic.com or email her at octobersun@bellsouth.net.

  • Oak vessel with slit
  • Walnut bowl sliced open
  • The irregularities in these two vessels (made from two completely different species of wood) are what makes them so beautiful, exciting and unique.
  • Narra bowl:  Working with exotic wood allows one to appreciate the vibrant colors found in nature.
  • Oak box and Oak inverted bowl - Oak is the most difficult wood to turn because it is prone to cracking.  But when you get a finished piece, it’s worth the effort.
  • Cherry dish with coves
  • Cherry bowl with steps
  • Cherry goblet - Cherry is my favorite wood to turn.   Rich in color, it deepens with age.
  • Maple box - Wooden boxes are both functional and decorative and come in many different styles.
Various bottle toppers:  Bottle toppers are made more quickly and provide for instant gratification.  In use, they make a great conversation piece.
